The membership of the National Consortium for Academics and Sports (NCAS) currently comprises 240 colleges, universities and community colleges across the country.
By joining the NCAS, a college or university agrees to bring back, tuition-free, its former student-athletes who competed in revenue and non-revenue producing sports and were unable to complete their degree requirements. Schools are encouraged to bring back student-athletes in all sports. In exchange for this tuition assistance, former student-athletes are required to participate in the school’s outreach and community service programs. In addition, NCAS members are also entitled to a variety of unique services and programs offered exclusively to members of the Consortium at discounted rates.
Membership Benefits
Public Relations
By joining the Consortium, member institutions prove their dedication to the academic and social welfare of their student-athletes. NCAS members receive the monthly E-Newsletter and the annual report highlighting their accomplishments in the Degree Completion, and Outreach and Community Service Programs. Each year, the institution that helps the most student-athletes to continue their educations after expired eligibility or return to school after previously leaving is honored. An award is also given to the institution with the highest number of youth reached in the community by student-athletes.Professional Development
All NCAS members are invited to participate in the Annual Conference held each Fall. The conference allows NCAS members to come together to discuss pertinent issues facing today’s student-athletes and athletic departments. Panel discussions and breakout sessions take place throughout the three-day conference as well as updates on program development and new programs. There is also an opportunity to meet with NCAS staff and committee members and make contacts with individuals representing other member institutions from across the country. Annual membership dues cover the cost of two university representatives to attend the conference free of charge.Recruiting and Admissions Benefits
By joining the Consortium, member institutions prove their dedication to the academic and social welfare of their student-athletes. In addition, outreach presentations provide a positive image of your school to young people in the community who might consequently consider becoming future students at the institution.
Fundraising Benefits
By joining the NCAS in its mission to serve your community, it is also a great opportunity to recruit individuals from your community to donate to your outreach and community service programs. Many corporations and individuals who may not be directly interested in supporting athletics, may be interested in supporting those programs that help children by sending student-athletes into the community who will give hope and send positive messages.Programs
Consortium programs are designed to impact the youth of America on topics such as balancing academics and athletics, drug and alcohol abuse, racial, gender and human rights sensitivity, violence prevention and conflict resolution, and gender violence prevention. Consortium programs can also be utilized by athletic department staff and university personnel. All programs are offered to NCAS members at a discounted rate.
