Dr. Nancy S. Kaplan is the Associate Vice President for Academic Support Services and Student Development. In her role, she is responsible for the Student Development Program for Athletics and directs the University Freshman Center at St. John’s University. She serves as an adjunct assistant professor in the School of Education teaching courses in educational administration and supervision.
The primary focus of Dr. Kaplan’s work is providing academic and personal support programs to a diverse student body. Special emphasis is placed on assisting freshmen and student-athletes with the demands of higher education. In her role she oversees academic advising, tutoring, study center, career counseling, Life Skills programming, Student Development 101, student-athlete orientation, personal counseling and sport psychology services, SAAC, the CHOICES Alcohol Education Grant and the STAR Mentoring Program.
A member of the St. John’s women's basketball BIG EAST Championship team in 1988, her academic credentials from St. John’s include a doctorate in educational administration and supervision, a master of business administration in executive management and a bachelor of science degree in sport management. She also completed professional development programs at Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations and Harvard University.
Dr. Kaplan serves as a trainer for the Anti-Defamation League presenting workshops in Diversity and is also the Vice President of the Merrick Union Free School District. She and her husband Lenny are the parents of two children, Michael (12) and Joshua (8).
